Spirituality

Our Lady of Lourdes High School at heart is and will always be a Catholic school. Therefore, everything that the school does must be motivated by a deep love and respect for the traditions of the Catholic faith and the teachings of the Magisterium in union with our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. This obviously is demonstrated in the religion classes that students attend.  Yet this must also filter into everything that the school does on a regular basis in a very real way.

Each student must be exposed to a living and dynamic Catholic Christian faith tradition experience; this is why the most important event at our school is the Eucharist – the source and summit of the Christian faith.  As a school community, we gather for Holy Mass monthly and on all holy days of obligation.  The students contribute to each liturgy through lecturing, altar serving, and music ministry.

Each school day, we begin with a prayer and end with a prayer, invoking the intercession of the saint of the day as well as our patrons; Our Lady of Lourdes, Saint Marcellin Champagnat, and Saint Dominic. During our penitential seasons, Advent and Lent, we provide opportunities for our students to receive the Sacrament of Penance in preparation for the great feasts of Christmas and Easter. It is our hope to instill in our young people the need for self-denial, circumspection, and conversion towards an ever growing unity with Christ and His Church.

The faith must also be practiced in the wider community. This is why we offer occasions for the students to exhibit charitable works, exemplified in the weekly mission collections, food drives, and fund raisers for our brothers and sisters in need.

Our campus ministry gives each student the opportunity to participate in retreat programs that aim to bring them a greater appreciation of the Catholic faith through faith-based workshops and activities and the reception of the sacraments of the Eucharist and Confession. The ultimate goal of everything we do at Our Lady of Lourdes is to truly implant what the great Apostle Saint Paul wrote to the Church of Ephesus:

That Christ may dwell by faith in your hearts: that, being rooted and founded in charity, You may be able to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, To know also the charity of Christ, which surpasseth all knowledge: that you may be filled unto all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)

This is what we hope and pray for and offer up to our Heavenly Father through His Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ—to Him be all praise and glory forever and ever!
